The pursuit of a sustainable future hinges on the ability to explore and develop new energy resources. With the increasing global demand for clean and renewable energy, companies must constantly innovate while minimizing environmental impact. Wazoku’s platform is at the forefront of this movement, empowering organizations like Enel Green Power (EGP) to revolutionize their exploration processes and shape the future of energy.

Wazoku’s Role in Shaping the Future of Energy

Wazoku has actively supported companies in the energy sector, facilitating access to innovation and problem-solving networks. Through initiatives such as Enel Green Power’s Innothon challenge, our platform connects companies with experts and pioneering thinkers worldwide, fostering solutions that push the boundaries of renewable energy exploration.

As a leader in renewable energy, EGP has been driving the energy transition forward, using cutting-edge technologies to enhance the performance and efficiency of its renewable plants. With a commitment to achieving zero emissions, EGP adopts advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and automation, setting the pace for the future of energy.

Robotics: Transforming Renewable Energy Exploration

A crucial area of innovation in renewable energy exploration is the use of robotics and automation for plant management. Automated robotic platforms have drastically improved the ability to inspect and maintain renewable energy plants. Thus reducing the need for human intervention, enhancing efficiency, and minimizing the risk of errors.

In collaboration with Wazoku, EGP launched the Innothon challenge, seeking an autonomous robotic platform capable of navigating renewable energy plants to collect data, conduct inspections, and perform minor maintenance tasks. This challenge underscores how advanced technology is revolutionizing renewable energy operations, contributing to the broader transformation of the future of energy.

Innothon Challenge: Exploring Innovative Energy Solutions

The Innothon challenge was designed to automate the inspection and maintenance of renewable energy plants, divided into four phases to encourage global participation and innovation:

  • Phase 1: Solvers submitted proposals by April 17, 2023, outlining autonomous robotic platforms tailored to the specific needs of renewable energy plants.
  • Phase 2: EGP reviewed the submissions and selected promising proposals, providing customized kits worth up to €5,000 to facilitate prototype development.
  • Phase 3: The selected teams developed prototypes within two months using the provided kits.
  • Phase 4: In July 2023, the teams were invited to EGP’s Innovation Hub & Lab in Catania, Sicily, to refine their prototypes with expert support, advancing their robotic solutions for the energy sector.

This challenge exemplifies how Wazoku’s platform can connect companies with global innovators, driving progress in sustainable energy exploration. By promoting open innovation, the Innothon challenge set the stage for developing groundbreaking solutions that shape the future of energy.

Key Requirements for Robotic Solutions

The Innothon challenge had specific requirements for the proposed robotic platforms, focusing on several applications for renewable energy assets:

  • Inspection of Electrical Components: Detecting electric arcs, partial discharges, temperature hotspots, and component defects.
  • Surveillance and Patrolling: Ensuring plant security and operational integrity through autonomous monitoring.
  • Small Maintenance Tasks: Using a small robotic arm with a gripper to perform minor tasks like moving cables and checking bolts, remotely controlled by human operators.

Solvers submitted technical reports, preliminary software code, and a list of tools for prototype development. Optional deliverables included project schematics and comprehensive reports covering both essential and desirable features.

Sustainable Impact of Innovative Exploration

The solutions proposed through the Innothon challenge contribute significantly to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:

  • SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure: Encouraging innovative approaches to building sustainable energy infrastructure.
  • SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production: Promoting efficient resource use and sustainable plant operations.
  • SDG 13: Climate Action: Enhancing the efficiency of renewable energy plants to combat climate change.

By facilitating challenges like Innothon, Wazoku empowers energy companies to lead the way in exploring the future of energy. Our platform acts as a catalyst for sustainable development, connecting companies with global innovators and driving technological advancements in energy exploration.
