“Sometimes things fall apart so that better things can fall together” ― Marilyn Monroe
Disruptive innovation has become a hot topic in the last few years, but where do you start? The best place is… yourself. To create something truly innovative and new, you have to be ready to leave your comfort zone and do some self-disruption. This sounds very stressful, doesn’t it? How can you deal with it? Read on for a few ideas:
- You have made a decision that will disrupt your career and you are now feeling like you are taking a leap in the dark. The reality is, things will never change if you keep doing the same thing, expecting different results. So, close your eyes and take that plunge!
- You probably feel scared now… that is OK. Just remind yourself that this is a good thing – you’re doing something that’s never been done before so, why wouldn’t you feel scared? It’s perfectly normal!
- You’re on a lonely road… and probably a successful one. As no one else is doing the same thing, the probability of success is higher. It’s a long and windy road, mind you, but you’ll get there.
- Don’t expect to evaluate your success in the same way you’ve done before. You’ll have to find whole new ways of measuring it – you’re doing something completely different and the same cookie-cutter rules do not apply.
Whatever you are doing, just remember that to disrupt and innovate in a business, a product or anything else, you must first start with yourself. Individuals are the main growth force and without them, there would hardly be any innovation in organisations.
