Innovation scale-up placed in the Top 30 of list for medium-sized tech firms, cited for its commitment to a healthy workplace culture

30th September 2021 – Innovation scale-up Wazoku has been placed in the Top 30 medium-sized tech firms on 2021 UK’s Best Workplaces™ in Tech list, published today by Great Place to Work® UK.

Wazoku was placed among 98 ranked organisations by Great Place to Work® UK, the global authority on workplace culture. It uses a research-backed Trust Index© employee survey to analyse the responses of UK-based tech employees to determine its Best Workplaces™ list.

Wazoku, with offices in Copenhagen and the US as well as two UK offices, was recognised for its ongoing commitment to providing a healthy workplace culture for its employees, particularly during the pandemic.

“Our values – being passionate, customer-focused, collaborative and accountable – have been at the heart of what we do ever since the company started,” said Simon Hill, CEO, Wazoku. “We put great effort and thought into making Wazoku a positive and diverse workplace, so for this to be recognised by Great Place to Work® UK is a proud moment for me. The past 18 months have seen mental health challenges like never before, and supporting our team members in this area is an ongoing priority.”

Wazoku provides many and varied employee benefits, including unlimited holidays, office hackathons, flexible working, food & drinks, pension schemes, summer parties, mental health services, Perkbox, and ongoing training opportunities.

But what makes the company a ‘great place to work’ is its dedication to making a positive social impact. This includes a commitment to diversity, a pledge to a more regenerative future and a belief in supporting and nurturing its employees.

In Q4 2020, Wazoku became one of the world’s first innovation firms to officially become carbon neutral. When offsetting its carbon footprint, Wazoku consulted employees as to which projects should be included in its carbon offset portfolio and now supports the following organisations:

  • Alto Mayo Protected Forest – an initiative to protect and restore the Alto Mayo Protected Forest in Peru.
  • For Peat’s Sake – raising awareness about the damaging practice of peat harvesting and offering an affordable, eco-friendly alternative to peat-based composts.
  • A Bright Idea – a combination of carbon finance and microfinance to bring clean, renewable solar energy to power lights and appliances for households across India.
  • Biogas Digesters – devices used to produce gas for cooking and fertiliser for growing, helping to address energy, environmental and health issues in rural communities.
  • Community Tree Planting – an initiative to help small communities replant trees to counter the effects of poverty, deforestation, and harmful carbon emissions.

“People value benefits such as good holidays and parties, of course, but being transparent, collaborative and open with our employees about sustainability projects is a vital element in why people enjoy working here,” continued Simon Hill. “We’ve also fully embraced flexible working. As a tech firm, we have always been progressive about allowing people to work from wherever best suits their needs but have doubled-down on this since the pandemic.”

“Even now, with people coming back to the office, we remain flexible about letting people work where they feel safest and most comfortable. With international offices in Denmark and the US too, we’ve managed to create a global workplace that people value and take great pride in.”
