Enel and InnoCentive Aid in UN SDG # 9: Focusing on resilient Infrastructure, Sustainable Industrialization and Innovation

Modern infrastructure and industrialization have the potential to transform underdeveloped nations into more prosperous, clean and safe places for people to thrive, but not every nation has access to the resources they need. We must also keep in mind that, while industry and commerce are essential in achieving prosperity, environmental sustainability and clean energy must always be a priority.

These are some of the driving forces behind the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #9. Together, Enel and InnoCentive are dedicated to pursuing this goal and helping nations across the world improve their infrastructure in order to generate employment and income, facilitate international trade and enable the efficient use of resources.

Enel has also taken an official commitment in pursuing UN SDG#9 11 at the 2018 Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).

More About UN SDG #9

The primary goal of UN SGD #9 is to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation across the world. In March, 2016, at 47th session of the UN Statistical Commission, the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on SDG Indicators (IAEG-SDGs) created a plan for SDG #9 that included a global indicator framework, laying out many targets they wish to pursue. Among them are:

• • Developing quality, reliable, sustainable and resilient infrastructure that supports economic development, human well-being and affordable and equitable access for all.
  • Promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization.
  • Increasing access to financial services, value chains and markets for small-scale industrial enterprises, particularly in developing countries.
  • Upgrading infrastructure in industries to make them more sustainable and promote clean technologies.
  • Enhancing the scientific research and technological capabilities of all industries in all countries.
  • Increasing access to information and communication technology, particularly access to the Internet for developing countries.
  • By 2030, significantly raise industry’s share of employment and GDP, in line with national circumstances, and double its share in the least developed countries.
